Lancashire's derelict Camelot Theme Park in Charnock Richard reopens as Scare City from 26 September to 7 November 2026. Eight brand-new horror zones have been built into previously off-limits parts of the site, including an abandoned asylum, a Sweeney Todd-inspired barbershop, and a forest ruled by an ancient coven.
Billed as one of the world's longest outdoor horror attractions, it's a two-hour immersive walk-through with live actors stalking every turn. Not for the faint-hearted, but an unmissable date for horror fans across the region.
Newsham Scream Park takes over Liverpool's Newsham Park Hospital from 9 October 2026. An eerie former Victorian orphanage and asylum, it is well worth the journey. This year's event has been completely reimagined with four brand-new scare mazes and a street-food courtyard to recover in between frights.
Further along the M58, Farmaggedon in Ormskirk runs from 27 September to 1 November 2026. Five scare houses, live bands, DJs and several bars make it less a single maze and more a full night out for horror fans.
Greater Manchester's family calendar this October is just as strong as its scare scene, and most of it is free.
One of the best Halloween events in Manchester for families is to see the inflatable monsters and attend the monster parade. Manchester BID and CityCo's Halloween in the City returns with the MCR Monsters, 17 giant inflatable monsters looming over rooftops at the Arndale, Printworks, Corn Exchange, Selfridges and more. The monster trail runs from Saturday 24 to Saturday 31 October 2026, marking its tenth anniversary.
Alongside the trail, the free Halloween in the City Weekender takes over the city centre on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, with a monster parade, live music and family activities for all ages.
Gandeys Circus pitches its haunted big top outside the Trafford Centre from 10 October to 1 November 2026. Expect an international cast of skeletons, vampires and circus artistes, with acrobatics, comedy and thrill acts built for the whole family.
Book ahead, as this is consistently one of the most popular kids Halloween events in the area.
Another of the great Halloween events for kids is to visit a farm. Farms across Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester open their patches throughout October, including Cockfields Farm, Kenyon Hall Farm, High Legh Pumpkin Patch, Reddish Vale Farm and Lancaster Park & Animal Farm. Most combine pumpkin picking with tractor rides, carving stations and Halloween shows.
Bury's Jersey Girls Dairy also runs a hands-on pumpkin experience this year, pairing the patch with a spooky barn carving session. Wellies strongly recommended.
Not into scare mazes? Manchester's night-owl crowd has plenty of alternatives. Grimmfest, the city's genre film festival, returns to the Odeon Great Northern from 8 to 11 October 2026 with horror premieres and Q&As.
HOME also runs its seasonal horror film programming through late October, while the Great British Film Orchestra brings its Halloween at the Movies tour to Manchester and Stockport, performing live scores from Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus. For laughs rather than screams, comedy clubs across the city, including Creatures Comedy Club, run Halloween-themed stand-up specials throughout the month, alongside a wave of indie Halloween club nights.
